Contraception

At Hygiea, we offer expert contraception advice and the placement of IUDs or Implanon implants. We perform these procedures under ultrasound guidance, which makes placement more accurate and reliable than at a general practitioner’s office. Our practice is a woman-friendly environment, offering personalized care for young women, new mothers, and anyone seeking trustworthy contraceptive solutions.

Which IUD is Right for You?

There are two main types of intrauterine devices (IUDs): hormonal and copper.

🔹 Hormonal IUD (Mirena or Kyleena)

  • Releases a small amount of levonorgestrel (a hormone)

  • Effective for 5 to 8 years, depending on the type

  • Thins the uterine lining, often reducing or eliminating periods

  • Ideal for women who prefer lighter periods and high contraceptive reliability

🔹 Copper IUD (T-Safe)

  • Hormone-free, perfect for those wanting to maintain a natural cycle

  • Effective for 5 to 10 years, depending on the type

  • Prevents sperm from surviving in the uterus

  • Can cause heavier periods in some women

How Does IUD Placement Work?

1. Consultation
We’ll help you decide which IUD suits your lifestyle and health best. If you’ve recently given birth, IUD placement is possible from 10 to 12 weeks postpartum.

2. Placement
The IUD is inserted with ultrasound guidance, ensuring correct positioning. This improves safety and reduces the risk of complications.

3. Follow-Up
A check-up 6 weeks later confirms that the IUD is still properly placed.
